Tips on moving to Chicago. What would I need?
mystirious1 asked:
I am moving to Chicago in Mid September and am nervous but generally excited. I am a recent college graduate and am looking for change in a diverse location. I really needed some real tips on what I would need to do when preparing for my transition and also would love to know what tips I could use when for the winters- how to prepare for it, a great location for someone my age and just some necessary tips…thanks so much in advance!

chicago is a great place to live. neighborhood location makes a huge difference in the price of housing; and in the kind of people who will be living next door to you. the winters are given too much press. chicago is warmer than other areas due to its proximity to the lake. great public transportation. cars can be a problem, as parking can get tight if you don,t have a garage. the lake front is beautiful. tons of great restaurants. the spring and fall are the best seasons, tho, this summer has been very mild. there are several commuter train routes out of town if you wish to live in the suburbs.

Well my family relocated in 2003 so hopefully you'll find this information helpful. One thing for sure you'll need is plenty of energy. This town is highly active with many functions whether it's indoor or outdoor. Oh I must tell you each function draw crowds you probably wouldn't believe. Secondly, bring your patience because its a requirement here. Many different culturals with many ways of life often equal confusion at some point and time. But the experience is priceless. And finally warm clothes is the key to surviving the winter. Invest in at least 2 quality coats, 2 jackets, about 5 umbrellas, waterproof shoes and/or boot. Also, you might want to think about CTA card. This card is very helpful in communiting throughout the city, whether rail or bus. It's much cheaper and safer than cash. Hopefully these are tips you find helpful. And always be safe.
