Any suggestions/comments/tips for a single girl moving to San Francisco?
AlexTT asked:
Im moving to San Francisco in August for graduate school. Im 22 years old and have only visited the city twice. I'm apprhensive about moving but excited. I'd appreciate any suggestions, comments, or tips about the city and/or planning a big move solo. Thanks!

I HOPE YOU HAVE THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE THERE:) Use protection though (the STD rates are skyhigh, I hear) and the drugs are flooded there (like everywhere else) but SF is more densely populated with it. But also I hear it is EXTREMELY FUN, FUN, FUN! I'm sure you'll have the time of your life:)

I would start by seeing what kind of network you have, if you belong to a church, ask if they have a fellowship program that you could get in touch with people in SFO for possible rooms or roommates to share in a place in SFO. Being that you are a graduate student there are support groups at school, that you should be able to get in contact with to help get you established in the area. Check with your Dean of studies, of things available to you to help in making your transition smoother to the bay area. Take a look on line on things to do in San Francisco that would interest you, art, music, theater, cultural centers, lots of things to see do and try (food, wines, etc.) Hope that your stay here will be a joy and your transition smooth and your school is successful.

sell everything
buy items on craigslist
DO NOT live in oakland
get a place close to BART or MUNI
walk with confidence
avoid the mission district
see the sites
DO NOT expect to get what you've seen in movies/tv

I'm thinking about move myself by maybe june or as soon as possible and start as a roommate because as you know, rents are in the skies in SF…ohhh by the way if you interested in look for a roommate let me know. Because i would like to find someone ( girl preferred) to rent an apartment together and share bills. I'm 23 years-old and i have visited San Fran like 10 times lol Right now im only saving money to make the "jump" to the city. Thank to God i have transfer from my job to there and gonna keep going with my career( i'm expecting to go to the city college of SF they have my major).
P.S.I'm an easy going person and DO NOT drink and smoke.
If you are interested in a roommate …..let me know here and i'm gonna open the option to send message in my profile, so you're be able to send me a message.

well i am a 22 year old like yourself and i was born and raised in SF. Ok, the person who said the STD and drug thing is ridiculous, i think you need to protect yourself wherever you go. People get the wrong impression on SF. Are you going to SFSU or USF or somewhere else? Just keep your thinking cap on as my mom would say, don't put yourself in dumb situations, just like everywhere else in the world. MUNI is the best, they may not always be on time but it goes everywhere. Go to a giants game, go to some bars, just be careful about the guys at teh bars haha. But totally go on craigslist.org, they have housing and jobs on there and they are really great. I'm sure you'll meet plenty of people though school or if you get a job so i wouldn't worry about meeting people. One of the most important things is to keep you mind open, many people come here closed minded and very judgemental, and people here obviously **** that. North Beach is fun for a nice lunch or dinner, best bet for afforadable housing would be an in-law unit in the sunset or richmond district (can look on craigslist) because they are both good areas of the city that some people call more "suburban" because they are mostly single family homes and no high rises like downtown. Good luck and have fun!

Buy PepperSpray! Make sure you have a job when you move. Money is tight when living in the city.
